iClicker Supports Student Success
Through Active Learning
iClickerIn March 2018, the Learning Science and Insights team released a summary of the learning-science behind the iClicker product design and a meta-analysis of the behaviors and performance of more than 800,000 students in 36,000 courses across 542 institutions using iClicker. This summary was released in the the latest impact studies, “Educational Results with iClicker”.

Key findings from the research
After more than ten years of pedagogical innovation and engaging students in active learning, results from this impact research on iClicker confirms that:
  • iClicker is easy to use - even for instructors lacking confidence or experience with technology.
  • student engagement in the classroom more than doubles with the use of iClicker (according to a research protocol).
  • male and female students are equally engaged, with no statistically significant difference in their level of iClicker participation.
  • 86% of students reported that iClicker increased their confidence to participate in class.
  • 91% of students reported that the immediate feedback iClicker provides increases their understanding of concepts.
  • 100% of instructors believed that the use of iClicker increased active learning in the classroom.

As the first and still most widely-used student engagement system in higher education, iClicker continues to provide the most innovative, research-based, and pedagogically-based capabilities to improve student engagement and academic success, as is evidenced in our latest product updates, which include:
  • Geo-location attendance tracking: iClicker Cloud’s geolocation-based attendance functionality helps instructors quickly and reliably take attendance. iClicker helps get students to class, so they instructors can engage them once they are there.
  • Word Cloud: Short answer question results can now be displayed as a Word Cloud. This new option provides a highly visual (and fun!) representation of students’ responses and highlights key themes.
  • Anonymous polling: This new functionality is particularly useful when covering sensitive subjects that students may otherwise be hesitant to share their views on. Students will be able to participate in anonymous questions of all available types (multiple choice, numeric, short answer, and target questions) whether using an iClicker remote or the iClicker Reef mobile app.
  • Exit polling: Once a polling session is ended, instructors will now see an option to ask students an exit poll question. When students provide feedback via exit polling, instructors gain a deeper level of insight into students’ understanding of concepts covered in class.
  • Flashcards: Flashcards have been a go-to student study tool for years, and now iClicker is making it even easier for students to prepare for quizzes and exams. In addition to the student study guide iClicker Reef has always offered, this update will allow students to create flashcards from course content to review key concepts and help them feel optimally prepared.
