Hello University Business Editorial Advisory Council members,
Thank you again for serving on our Editorial Advisory Council and agreeing to be an editorial resource. We appreciate you sharing your knowledge and insight with us.
Here are brief overviews of stories that we are working on for upcoming issues and information on how to get involved.
September 2017 (we are on deadline now for these features)
- Inside Look: Presidential Residences - President houses play an important role in relationship building with students, faculty, alumni and other constituent groups. They also serve as a benefit that can attract candidates during a presidential search. And like any facility on campus, they need regular maintenance and occasional upgrades. In this pictorial feature we are highlighting trends in president house interiors, including space for entertaining, making updates just prior to an incoming president’s arrival, and separating public spaces from private living quarters. Our story will focus on the institutional need for this space to be robust and note that these houses are much more than just a place for the president to live. Nominate your president’s house by sending photos via the form at www.universitybusiness.com/insidelook by Monday, July 17 (that page also contains links to past Inside Look features). If you intend to submit, please also email Melissa Ezarik at mezarik@universitybusiness.com so we can be on the lookout for the photos. President houses with recent updates are preferred, but any institution may be part of the story.
- Mechanics of Faculty Housing - Many higher ed institutions offer faculty and staff campus housing. More than an enticing perk to recruit talent, it also creates an opportunity to bolster the dynamics of campus community. In this feature, we’ll examine best practices, policies, challenges and issues, such on-campus vs. off campus residences and financing options. If you want to share your institution’s program and experiences, please email Ray Bendici at rbendici@promediagrp.com
October 2017
- Innovation in Accessibility: Live Captioning – Is your institution using live/realtime captioning (beyond automatic speech recognition software) to make events such as athletics games and commencement ceremonies accessible to those with hearing difficulties? Or is realtime captioning used to help students participate in live classroom discussions? This article will cover how colleges are solving the challenges related to captioning live. Email Melissa Ezarik at mezarik@universitybusiness.com if your college or university can share.
- Finding Savings in All the Small Places – With today’s tight budgets, it’s important for every area of campus operations to be analyzed for possible efficiencies. And although saving large amounts of money in a particular area is often desirable, small savings do add up. What are some areas that your institution has made a smart, smaller dent in spending and how did you make it happen? We’d like to hear about it for this round-up story. Email Melissa Ezarik at mezarik@universitybusiness.com.
Thanks again for your continued support as we work to deliver the editorial content you value as an educational leader.
Sincerely,
Ray Bendici
