September issue preview

A Note from the Editor

Dear Readers,

As the fall semester begins in earnest, you'll have plenty on your plate, but you can still stay on top of important matters in the new issue of University Business. For example, in Data Lockdown, Ann McClure discusses the Obama administration's "cyber security report card" and what it means to higher education, while experts tell how colleges can stay safe from cyber attacks.

Many institutions have their own in-house experts on a variety of topics. Tapping their expertise is a great way to bring notoriety to a university—if the expert is "media friendly." In Spreading the News, Michele Herrmann finds out what schools do to prepare their experts to "meet the press."

As institutions increasingly turn to shared resources to save money and energy, space scheduling technology is helping ensure that resources and rooms are available when needed. In Multi-campus Planning: Behind the Scenes, Melissa Ezarik tells what's behind this technology and how it can benefit institutions of any size.

And finally, Dr. Robert Zemsky, author of Making Reform Work—out this month from Rutgers University Press—offers provocative ideas on how to change higher ed in an interview called Radical Reformer.
