Executive Summary Colleges and universities are working hard to accommodate record increases in enrollments and financial aid while government funding and endowment values are shrinking. Many schools are addressing the challenge by engaging outside vendors to handle processes not related to the institution's core functions. One example: distribution of student refunds. For decades schools did this themselves, with paper checks distributed to students personally or by mail. For many colleges and universities the increased workload of distributing refunds required hiring temporary workers or reallocating current staff. Help from Higher One Higher One's OneDisburse® Refund Management® handles the distribution of refunds to the student. The institution simply sends Higher One a file with student names and refund amounts, along with a wire for the total disbursement amount. Students have multiple options for receiving their refunds, including two electronic options: an ACH transfer to a bank account of their choice or a no-minimum-balance, no-monthly-fee, FDIC-insured checking account from Higher One.
