EduComm's Featured Session Highlights:

Digitizing the Campus: Risks. Rewards. Overcoming Resistance.
S
peaker: Phil Ice, Director of Course Design, Research and Development at American Public University System and an expert on the impact of emerging technologies on cognition in online learning environments.

Long considered the province of schools of art and design, cross-curricular integration of multimedia is approached cautiously if at all. Driven by fears of high costs and lack of faculty buy-in, academia has been cautious in adopting robust means of representing the knowledge generated across campus. This presentation will demonstrate the benefits of utilizing multimedia in all institutional settings and majors. Learn by example with case studies that illustrate low threshold means of adoption and potential avenues for administrators to leverage the research component of the professorship. Benefits related to significant increases in the enterprise's knowledge capital and student employability skills are also covered. Ideas for creating roadmaps for institutions at any level will be a key take away.

University 2.0
Speaker: Doyle Friskney, Chief Technology Officer at the University of Kentucky.

What will happen as the gap between what students expect and what faculty are comfortable with widens? How will your University remain relevant? Can you offer enterprise applications services to today's smart-phone and tablet toting mobile student? Walk away with a 36 month time line for implementing the right infrastructure for success.

Mobile Technology: More Learning, Better Teaching
Speakers, From Seton Hill University: Mary Ann Gawelek, Provost and Dean of the Faculty; Mary Spataro, Title III Coordinator/Activity Director; Phil Komarny, Vice President of Computer & Information Technology.

Seton Hill University enhanced their teaching and learning processes by integrating mobile technology resources- in a big way. Last fall, the University distributed 1,800 iPads and 700 MacBook laptops to students and faculty. This presentation will share the results of focus groups and surveys administered to faculty and students, exploring the integration process and its effect on classroom instruction. Expect practical demonstrations of iPad and MacBook integration applicable to your classroom.
