Old Dominion University delivers innovation & confidence for their engineering students

Do you want to deliver a working, student-run space to encourage problem-solving and prototyping for your student engineers? ODU did just that with Ultimaker 3D printing and Cura software. The dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering & Technology at ODU in Norfolk, VA, had a vision to create an advanced markerspace that was owned and operated by students. The case study shows you how the dean took his idea to reality. Old Dominion University saw results such as:
  • Beyond prototyping to production
  • Highly cost-effective
  • Ease of use for students and operators
  • Easy to maintain
  • Able to use in virtual class environments
Let’s highlight one of the results: Engineering in a Virtual Classroom

The stay-at-home orders for students and faculty at educational institutions across the country have disrupted many classes. However, ODU has taken it in stride as a very fast, and unexpected, pilot study into how engineering studies can be conducted in a virtual setting.

The Batten College of Engineering & Technoogy plans to support the education of this new engineering normal. They will be teaching their students how to be successful engineers in virtual engineering environments. You can too!

ODU says they are very happy with the Ultimaker 3D printers they have their students using. The students have been able to work on amazing projects with ease.
