Hello again, UBTech speakers, and happy May. As you may have noticed, we have published the times and locations of each session on the UBTech website. Sessions may have moved since the initial posting, so please make sure you check again for your final day and time. Two other requests:

  1. Please read through your session description and ensure it appears as expected. Let us know if any edits or changes are necessary.

  2. If you see a ghost silhouette instead of your photo, it means we did not receive a picture from you. Please send one to us asap.

As you create your slide decks for your presentations, here are three tips that you may find useful:
  • A good rule of thumb is to prepare one slide per minute of presentation. This gives viewers ample time to process the content and then switch back their attention to you while you’re still talking on the key points of the slide.

  • Keep your slides simple and avoid “eye-chart slides.” Images are better than words.

  • Avoid “PowerPointlessness.” Just because you can add flying text, 3-D objects and unlimited color combinations doesn’t mean you must.

And here are three more tips that will help ensure that your presentation is well-received:
  • Make sure your presentation aligns with your session description and title. The biggest reason for poor session reviews is that the presentation did not align with the description.

  • Make sure your session aligns with the target audience you identified: basic, technical or strategic.

  • Don’t make the presentation exclusively about you and your institution. Even if you’re presenting a case study, be sure to offer useful take-aways relevant to other schools.

Best regards,
