Session Highlights of the AV Summit:
MERGING AV AND IT : A LOOK INSIDE THE TREND
The distinctions between computing and classroom display devices are blurring, and many colleges are now merging their AV and IT departments. One force behind this trend is the drive to meet the expectations of staff, faculty and students who want all their devices to “just work.” Explore the emerging critical issues in this trend, including staffing, training and funding. Our presenter will share success stories and pitfalls, and lead attendees in a lively discussion about the merging worlds of IT and AV.
SPEAKER: Jim Batson, Director of Technical Services in the Information Technology Department at William Rainey Harper College.
STANDARDIZATION CREATES ROOM FOR AUTOMATION
Remember the movie Groundhog Day? It’s déjà vu all over again. IT and AV managers at universities across the country say they work on solving the same problems in the same spaces every day, leaving the most important challenges and problems unsolved. This session provides a successful strategy to standardize your normal spaces, and reduce your “Groundhog Days” so you can pursue innovation.
SPEAKER: Drew Uth, Audio Visual Design and Support, Stockton College Computer Services
CENTRAL MANAGEMENT & MONITORING OF LEARNING SPACE TECHNOLOGY
Instructors have always suspected that their classroom AV devices have “minds of their own.” Well, those minds are getting more intelligent—and better behaved—thanks to a new generation of centrally managed and automated classroom AV technology. In this session, we’ll explore the benefits of these smarter devices, including streamlined service, cost savings and improved student outcomes.
SPEAKER: University TBD; and Casey Foulds, Education Relationship Manager, AMX
“5x10” ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS
In this spontaneous, highly interactive session, attendees will engage with their tablemates in discussions about the hot topics that have emerged earlier in the day. We’ll address five topics for 10 minutes each, and then end the session with quick reports from each table, equipping all attendees with innovative action points to implement on their campuses immediately following the Summit.
