25 years ago, a $100M gift changed higher education.

Henry and Betty Rowan made history in 1992 when they gave a $100 million gift to the New Jersey public college that now bears their name. The institution, now Rowan University—and higher education philanthropy—were never the same.
"Education is still the single most important means of changing a person’s life," Mr. Rowan said in 2012. "It is what made the difference for me, and it’s critical that our investment supports superior education for as many students as possible."
Since the Rowan gift, the University has established the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, nearly doubled enrollment to 18,500 students, attained Carnegie doctoral research institution status and become one of only two institutions in the nation with both M.D.- and D.O.-granting medical schools.
But the impact of the Rowan gift goes far beyond the university that bears his name.
Read about the legacy of that transformative gift and the effects that can still be felt today.
