Dear Reader, We're kicking off the New Year by announcing an exciting recognition program here at University Business, honoring those administrative departments that have found a way to work smarter and better. We call it Models of Efficiency, and it gets to the heart of what University Business is all about—"Solutions for Higher Education Management." What is a Model of Efficiency? It's a practice that uses technology and smart business processes to provide superior service to students, while maximizing resources. It's a way to do more with less, and to do it better. Over the years we've written about scores of institutions that have found technology and business process improvements to increase efficiency. Now, we'd like to write about yours. Maybe your Model of Efficiency involves freeing people to focus on the jobs they were hired for. For example, In one Human Resources Department, a decision was made to post the entire departmental knowledge base online in a self-service website, ending endless overlapping questions about routine procedures and information. This simple move set the HR staff free to focus on important cases. Perhaps it's a technology solution, like electronic fund disbursement, that saves time and money, while freeing the Bursar's Office staff—and hundreds of students—from the long lines of previous semesters. There are many additional examples from innovative practices at colleges and universities nationwide. Tell us about yours. If your office or department has a solution that save time and money, and improves student services, we want to know! Visit www.UniversityBusiness.com/modelsofefficiency to tell us your story. In the coming months of 2010, we'll publish articles about many of the institutions chosen as University Business Models of Efficiency. We hope yours will be one of them! | ||
